The types of headaches and why  they happen?

Headaches: there are many different types of headaches. Common headaches
include: Migraine, Tension, Sinus, Rebound and Cluster. Headaches may be
triggered by exercise, sleeping, sex, colds, food allergies, coughing,
 drugs, hormones and weather changes.

A typical migraine attack produces some or all of these signs and symptoms:

Moderate to severe pain, which may be confined to one side of the head or may affect both sides

Head pain with a pulsating or throbbing quality

Pain that worsens with physical activity

Pain that interferes with your regular activities

Nausea with or without vomiting

Sensitivity to light and sound

When left untreated, a migraine typically lasts from four to 72 hours, but the frequency with which headaches occur varies from person to person. You may have migraines several times a month or just once or twice a year.

Tension-type headache pain is often described as a constant pressure, as if the head were being squeezed in a vise. The pain is frequently present on both sides of the head at once. Tension-type headache pain is typically mild to moderate, but may be severe.  Tension headaches are often the result of stress, an injury to your neck, or a postural problem.

Sinus headaches cause a dull, deep, or severe pain in the front of your head and face. They are caused by an inflammation in the passages behind the cheeks, nose, and eyes. Bending down or leaning over generally makes the pain worse, as does cold and damp weather. The sinuses are the bony, air-filled cavities in the head that connect to the nose through small openings. During a cold or allergy attack, the openings can become blocked by excess mucus and may become infected.  Adjustments to the bones of the face can relieve sinus headaches.

Rebound headaches are headaches that result from the effects of pain medication.  The typical sufferer of rebound headache comes to rely on increasingly frequent and higher doses of pain killers to keep a headache at bay. Over time, headache symptoms grow worse rather than better, despite large amounts of prescription drugs, or off-the-shelf pain relievers containing aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen.  Chiropractic care can help relieve pain without the use of medication, thereby removing the need for the drug causing the rebound headache.

A cluster headache is one of the most painful types of headache. A stabbing pain usually lasts between 15 minutes and two hours and affects one side of the head, usually around the eye.  It usually affects men before the age of thirty about 2-3 hours after falling asleep.  They are usually triggered by alcohol consumption, stress, or environmental stressors.

There are many other types of headaches most of which may be helped by Drs. Jamin and White without the use of medication.  Call the office now  at 678-461-3512 for an appointment and rid yourself of your headaches today.
